Phone Detox

Detoxification implies to removal of toxins but we don't know that sometimes it is not only our body but even our habits that needs to be detoxed. One such is our addiction of phones. Cellphones were made to make our life, simple bridging the gap of communication. Today mobile phones have become the core communicating device and specially the invention of smartphones have eased our life in many ways. But at the same time we are getting too much dependent and addicted to it. Think of not checking your Whatsapp!, not updating any post in Facebook! or not even owning your phone for a day! sounds impossible i am sure you cannot do it for even an hour! even though i am writing about a phone detox topic i am doing the same, typing my article in my phone's app and sharing it through my social media account.

Perhaps, it is really difficult to let go of our phones completely because if it has disadvantages it has advantages too like learning tools, checking emails, sending messages, sharing life moments, being updated with everything that is happening in and around world, bill payment , navigation , getting reminders and lot more helps in daily activities making them simpler and less time consuming. We can't claim that completely disowning our phones will make our life simpler and happier. In this case we should just help ourselves in limiting our usage and not letting it interfere in our lives.
  • Create "No" phone time zones : Sometimes keeping phone at workplace or during studies is necessary and required. So, you should create your no phone time zones that is switching off your mobile phones for at least 2 hrs in a day. Most importantly don't indulge yourself into night chats and hamper your night's sleep which is important for your brain's proper functioning. Never lose sleep over your phone games, whatsapp and Facebook.
  • Avoid checking your phone during the first 30 minutes of your day as soon as you wake up in morning. This is a serious problem! the first 30 minutes of awakening should be dedicated to freshen up your body and doing positive and productive work to have a good day ahead. Read newspaper rather than reading text messages.
  • Have real conversation with people. Actually we speak less to people sitting next to us than chatting with people far away through whatsapp. Recently, i visited a party of which i have no memories because i was only taking pictures and sharing it with my friends on phone. I don't even remember whom i met? I didn't even had dinner properly because i was busy with my phone.I strongly think social media have made us more "anti-social".
  • I don't keep my cellphone away for a second! even at bedtime it is kept under my pillow! I didn't even realized it until i read it somewhere that actually it is a kind of disorder known as "Nomophobia" leading to over use of mobile phones. This may sound weird but actually it is a kind of psychological disorder which we don't even realize how we fall into. " The "over-connection syndrome" occurs when mobile phone use reduces the amount of face-to-face interactions thereby interfering significantly with an individual’s social and family interactions. The term "techno-stress" is another way to describe an individual who avoids face-to-face interactions by engaging in isolation including psychological mood disorders such as depression."
Now it's our turn to limit ourselves from being prisoner of something which is made by us. If one finds oneself in any of the above scenarios it's the time to let go of our addiction of phone which is making us unhealthy and unhappy. Stop being slave of your cellphone. I have started my " PHONE DETOX" and hope my article inspires even you to come out of it.
